Solar street lamps

PV street lamps allow to create lighting systems by exploiting solar energy in areas that are not connected to the grid system. The new Western Co. PV LED street lamp is an important turning point in stand-alone lighting systems thanks to a new light source made of light emitting diodes (LED) thus introducing new standards of efficiency, production and reliability that seemed unreachable until a few years ago. The PV street lamp has been dimensioned to guarantee a working of 12h per night during the worst period of solar insulation in December with 4 days of autonomy in case of ?no sun? condition. The new Western Co. PV LED street lamp emits a white light; this colour allows a better perception of colours and details in comparison with a SOX lamp. In addition, the LED lamp allows to have a lighting value of the road plane greater than those of a sodium low pressure lamp (LPS) considering the same power and a duration superior to whatever kind of filament/discharge lamp with a mean time between failure (MTBF) of 100.000 hours.

PV street lamps allow to create lighting systems by exploiting solar energy in areas that are not connected to the grid system. This PV street lamp has been dimensioned to guarantee a lamp activation of 12h per night during the worst period of sun insulation in December with 3 days of autonomy in case of "no sun condition". The timer function called "Self-Management" fixes a working of 12h per night and it manages the number of hours of lamp flux reduction according to the daily energy which is produced by PV modules. In the code SSLxx-B-M we have batteries and electronics on the top of the pole: compact and safe solution.

The solid state lighting LED lamp code´LED.36K1-230 has been properly studied for the use in applications with high luminous efficiency and high energy saving as street lamps with power supplying from the grid system. The lamp has been optimized for installation inside a standard lamp holder and for outdoor installations considering its fixing and light projection to the ground. All this is the ideal solution for parks, pedestrian and cycle tracks, residential and suburban roads, squares and parking for heights up to 7-8 meters. The lamp has got a power supplying and control electronic equipment with universal AC input / Full range (110-230Vac and frequency 50-60Hz) that has an average conversion efficiency > than 88% and a control system of the maximum working temperature for a total consumption of 60W. In the version of 36LEDs we reach total luminous fluxes of 5100lm and a total luminous efficiency of the lamp of 85lm/W.

  Western Co. charge regulators for lighting have been properly studied for PV street lamps with either SOX (low pressure sodium) and LED lamps. Their circuit has got a switching system with microcontroller for recharge of sealed or flooded lead acid 12Volt/24Volt (according to the version 12 or 24V) Pb batteries and search of the MPPT maximum power point of PV modules (switching Western Enhanced for a maximum exploitation of efficiency during recharge phase). A temperature sensor (which must be installed as near as possible to the battery) allows to adapt the recharge voltage to the variations of environment temperature as reported in the graphic at he end of this anual. This guarantees the best use of battery even in conditions of large thermal excursions and make these charge regulators suitable for outdoor applications. The recharge circuit needs to measure the battery voltage but, owing to the voltage drop on cables that connect regulator and battery, such measure is as more distorted as longer are the cables. For this reason there is an auxiliary input for the revelation of remote battery voltage that we advise to connect id the cables' length between SPB-LB and battery is > of 1.5 metres. All these expedients guarantee an optimum recharge and, therefore, a maximum life duration of the battery.

It's an electronic ballast properly designed for the use of low pressure sodium lamps, kind sox and sox-e, in high efficiency and energy savingapplications.+ EFFICIENCY FOR CONVERTION > 90% It is power supplied in low DC voltage (12Vdc or 24Vdc) and it has got an average conversion efficiency upper than 90% and a production greater than 140%, in comparison with a standard electromagnetic reactor. + EFFICIENCY FOR WAVE FORM Lamp drive is characterized by high frequency (20 kHz) sine wave signal (low crest factor) for high lamp efficiency, in terms of lumen per watt and for longer lamp life.In case of reduced energetic availability it is possible to have a flux reduction of the lamp with consequent energy saving up to 50%. For these reasons the ballast is ideal in PV street lamps for road lighting, as well as external places such as parks, gardens, parking-places, considering the possibility of direct connection to solar equipments as: SPBLB, SPB-LR and SPB-GSM. The small dimensions of the ballast allow its fixing in almost all the lamp-holders which are on the market and make it a highly versatile product.
